Hi! I’m Dr. James Sherer, Chief Clinical Officer of Nostos.
I serve as deputy CMO for New Jersey's largest mental health provider and I'm also one of the experts on technology and addiction for the American Psychiatric Association, where I co-edited the Technological Addictions textbook.
I believe technological addictions should be treated as seriously as substance use disorders, especially having seen how deeply they can affect both individuals and those who care about them. During my training at inner-city hospitals, I noticed that patients with addiction were often not given the same level of respect as others. I've since devoted my career to ensuring that anyone struggling receives excellent care and is never made to feel less than.
Everyone already has what it takes to overcome any addiction, it’s just a question of finding your own motivation and drive. The team and I at Nostos are here to support you in finding a path forward.
We know how it feels - wanting to stop, but continually getting pulled back in.
Our motivation for building Nostos draws from our deeply personal experiences, combined with our professional expertise as clinicians, researchers, and (ironically) technologists.
In Greek mythology, nostos refers to the return, or homecoming journey, of a hero. Our mission is to empower every hero to live their best life, free from addiction.
